Unique State Requirements
Louisiana and Tennessee
Louisiana and Tennessee require attorneys to be first certified by the American Board of Certification prior to obtaining state certification. These states do not require an additional exam, so the ABC exam is the only exam required to be certified by the state and ABC. For more information on state certification in these two states:

Ohio
The Ohio Supreme Court requires accredited certification programs to verify professional liability insurance of certified attorneys. Ohio attorneys must verify the following:
- Continuous maintenance of coverage by professional liability insurance through a reputable company in an amount not less than five hundred thousand dollars per loss, OR Practice relationship with clients will fully cover any professional liability claim made in an amount not less than five hundred thousand dollars per loss;
- Attorney/firm will maintain the financial ability to pay all claims that fall within the deductible amount of the professional liability policy;
